Bob got up at 5:30 thinking his watch said 6:30.  I got up at 6:30 in anticipation of going home today. We wanted to take some time to pack up and clean the trailer before getting on the road today. We had breakfast and began our thorough cleaning of the trailer.  I had packed up a few non-essential items last night and did a little bit of cleaning in the kitchen before going to bed.  The camper was really dusty and we know from past experience that mold and mildew grow on dust, so Bob helped me...

A rooster crowed multiple times this morning and set the day in motion.  The sun was out in a cloudless sky.  The temp was already warm at 81 degrees and humid.  We have 195 miles to go through all of Georgia to our destination near Gainesville today.  We left at 9:30 to get our driving done before the hottest part of the day.  We crossed the Savannah River which forms the line between South Carolina and Georgia. The Georgia border sign was just beyond that. We crossed the salt marsh areas in Ge...

It was a beautiful morning--sunny, clear skies, and 71 degrees.  We got an early start at 9:15. Our drive today would be 255 miles and fairly uneventful through the countryside for all of today.  We saw more peanut and cotton fields.  This morning on the news, we heard that schools in 2 counties near where the hurricane hit are still closed due to the damage from Florence.  They are also trying to get the mosquitoes under control due to all the standing water.  We saw standing water along the In...

It was another cool morning, but the skies were clear and cloudless.  We got ready to leave at 10:00 for our 251 mile drive today.  [I decided I wanted to try and ride in the trailer to see what goes on in there while we're moving, so I rode inside from our campsite to the Office where we stopped to deposit our trash and recyclables.  I must say that it was quieter inside the trailer than I thought it would be, but it was bumpy, bouncy, creaky, but not bad.  I didn't hear any pots and pans rattl...

It was 59 degrees this morning when we got up.  Not at all what we expected, but the sun was out and it warmed up to 70 degrees by 9:30 when we left for Colonial Williamsburg.  We picked the right day to go!  We drove the few miles to the Visitor's Center, paid our entrance fee (with a 10 discount coupon), and spent a little time at the Visitor's Center before we hopped on the free shuttle bus. The first stop on the shuttle bus was the Governor's Palace where we got off. Tours were given every 1...

It was a cloudy morning with the threat of rain.  We checked the weather reports and Saturday looks like a better day for a visit to Colonial Williamsburg.  We decided to take a drive to Yorktown on the Colonial Parkway that runs between Jamestown, Williamsburg, and Yorktown today.  The Colonial Parkway is a 23-mile long, scenic, winding road through the countryside. It was a beautiful drive lined with lush greenery on a road that had a sidewalk-like surface.   The road brought us to the banks o...
